Unlikely Region Tipped To Soar

Unlikely region tipped to soar

Mitch Gaynor

IT IS not the first place that comes to mind when picking a million-dollar suburb, but East Ipswich has been tipped to hit that mark in about 10 years and its residents are thrilled. Craig and Maria Fernandez moved into their East Ipswich home in December for what they thought was a bargain. Paying $334,000 for a threebedroom Queenslander, replete with white picket fence and close to parks and shops, the couple said they were settling in for the long-term. The young couple had an inkling their property would deliver strong capital returns, but the move was mostly about affordability and having a good home to raise a family.

With a median price now of about $280,000, Australian Property Monitors forecast a median value of more than $950,000 by 2020 - something Mr Fernandez admitted was an exciting prospect. "Reading up in terms of what's been going on in Ipswich in terms of road upgrades and services, there are encouraging signs for growth in the region," the 27-year-old said. "I looked into the region and thought this is incredible."

The civil designer works in Brisbane, but said they enjoyed spending weekends in Ipswich. "There's nice parks in the area and it's geared towards young families, which will definitely suit us because we are planning on having children." PRD Nationwide Ipswich real estate agent Helene Shephard said the area had a CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION: Craig and Maria Fernandez's $334,000 home at East Ipswich maybe worth $1 million in 10 years Frct,re: Adam Armstrong range of quality services, not to mention affordability. "The fact that you can buy a home on a generous large block from $259,000 is exceptional," she said.

"This is the main reason that Ipswich is experiencing the largest growth outside the mining towns in Australia. "You can work in Brisbane and be home within the hour via the train lines."
